I still use my spare XP PC to play UT. If that ever died i've got an XP partition on my Vista PC, I wouldn't want to spend the time trying to get UT to work on Vista tbh.

If it's for gaming mate I would stick with XP tbh.
I run 64bit Vista don't have any major problems except for the utdc 2.1 and freezing but this is a 64bit thing only. It does need a lot more umph to run and is a major resource hog. It is a bit anal about security in its default configuration and can be very frustrating when trying to install older games. Forget about all the gripes around the UI as you can make it look and feel like XP if you want to although now I have adjusted I prefer some (not all) of the Vista ways of doing things. But unless you are planning to run DX10 games and have a high end system it just ain't worth the frustration in all honesty.
I would just add that if you have more than 3.5 gig of memory then get the 64bit version of XP as it will make use of all your memory. Basically 32bit cannot use more than 3 to 3.5g of ram due to the 32bit address bus limitations. A 32bit address bus can ACCESS 4GB but some of that is reserved for I/O devices ( usually 1G ) so this is what limits your system to see only 3 to 3.5G of ram. There has to be some bandwidth left for devices such as your video card, hard drives ect to use. so although XP 32 bit supports 4gb it cannot use it all for applications.

I agree - I installed Vista 64 home prem for a while but had lots of issues.
when I moved to XP64 I can hand on tail say it's the best thing I did.
can see all 4gb of mem and everything runs silky smooth

You failed to maintain your weapon, Son.
I don't reckon you've got long. Seen that before. Gut wound. The slug's probably torn right through your liver. Mate of mine in Ulster got caught in sniper fire. Bullet blew his inside out. He screamed for a good 10 minutes. We couldn't send a medic in, the section was too hot. So we all took cover... and watched him die. I've never told that... to anyone... you should've called an ambulance... for the girl...
[10:27]<@kinnsy> man
[10:28]<@kinnsy> if they put blue leds on a turd you would buy it! :P :D
[10:28]<@kinnsy> or
[10:28]<@kinnsy> at least sniff around it :D

Same here, people hate it, the number of complaints that I get about it being "too slow, takes ages to load things etc" is unreal.
Face it Vista is dead in the water.

windows 7 will be just as bad. its about time ms built from the ground up and stopped worrying about backward compatability, they can always use virtual pc for legacy apps
